SILVER BAY REPORT

October 12-14 the SILVER BAY resort on LAKE GEORGE hosted the UNITARIAN-UNIVERSALIST RETREAT for 2018. I presented an audio/LP program in a lovely conference room overlooking the lake. A brand-new pair of our Model 3 FIBHORN speakers was set-up, along with an AUDIO RESEARCH d-75 amplifier and a LINN SONDEK turntable with a GRACE tonearm and a LONDON DECCA cartridge.

I do these presentations for music lovers who are curious about my claim that the LP record era (1948 to 1988) has given us an enormous legacy of world-wide music that is vastly under-appreciated in today's world. Properly played, the LP record is clearly more realistic than contemporary digital recordings. That is why I take such care in selecting and setting-up the equipment for my music playing sessions.

The Paul Winter Consort in St. John the Divine (NYC), Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Leonard Bernstein & the NY Philharmonic, the Penguin Cafe' Orchestra, the soundtrack from SOMEWHERE IN TIME and more were heard by an audience of about 18 folks.

Sunday, December 9, at 10 am I will be doing a one-hour SERVICE at the UNITARIAN-UNIVERSALIST CONGREGATION, 21 Weeks Rd, Glens Falls, NY with a similar audio system playing LP records. I will play sections of HANDEL'S MESSIAH, in support of my thesis that this is a radical anti-war work-of-art.

Also, Sunday afternoon, from 4-7 pm, NIPPER CLUB will happen at the same address. This is a gathering of folks to play THEIR LPs, CDs, cassettes, digital files, round-robin style. It's fun! Check it out!
