GERM on ZOOM: April 14, 2021

We gather on Wednesday night for our Golden Era Recorded Music Project to explore together the astonishing richness of music recorded between 1948 & 1988.

Tonight we begin where we left off last week: EARL “FATHA” HINES on piano and a piece from Duke Ellington's SACRED CONCERTS called HEAVEN.

Folk singer BILL CROFUT teamed with 2 of DAVE BRUBECK'S sons on an album of ANIMAL POEMS SET TO MUSIC by BILL. We will hear settings of two ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON poems.

SCOTT JOPLIN was the American prelude to jazz from 1899 to 1917 and his rags on piano are very popular BUT the orchestrations for band are hardly known. We will hear 2 by the NEW ENGLAND RAGTIME ENSEMBLE.

Two Movie Music Hits: SCARBOROUGH FAIR & I CAN'T GET STARTED are next. Who did them and what movies? Guess and win a CLARK BAR!

ROSEMARY CLOONEY sings 2 DUKE ELLINGTON songs in 1956 and we close with the magic of GLAZUNOV'S ballet THE SEASONS.

We send out a link for the Zoom meeting every Wednesday by email! Please contact us and let us know if you'd like to be added to the mailing list.

See you all at 7 pm TONIGHT!
