Three great film scores on original vinyl will be heard from 7 to 8 pm, Wednesday July 17: CHINATOWN, AMARCORD & SOMEWHERE IN TIME. Jerry Goldsmith was a last minute replacement composer for CHINATOWN's soundtrack, which he completed at white heat in 10 days. The haunting trumpet theme, the diabolical music portraying Noah Cross and the atmosphere of Southern California summer are wonderfully evoked. Fellini's comedy AMARCORD ("I Remember") from 1975 has a salon orchestra score by Nino Rota. Fellini said of him that "He was the most precious collaborator I ever had. His musical approach was worthy of celestial spheres." John Barry's music for SOMEWHERE IN TIME pushes the film viewer's emotion to a level rarely felt. After failing upon initial box office release, the film became hugely successful on cable TV after the public heard the music. Romantic, haunting and totally original, you will never forget it.
The event is free (from 7 to 8 pm); tea and choice confections will be served.
