GOLDEN ERA RECORDED MUSIC project (July 24, 2019): DEBUSSY & GRANADOS piano works LIVE!

The project will present Claude Debussy and Enrique Granados playing their piano works LIVE on vinyl. Although both composers died before 1920, we are fortunate to have vivid and accurate recordings of their playing in the form of piano rolls. They both travelled to the depths of the Black Forest for a session at the WELTE MIGNON recording site and made piano roll recordings of astonishing realism. We will hear Debussy playing his SUNKEN CATHEDRAL and other works, and Granados in his GOYESCAS. There will be a brief discussion of the technical aspects of the recording process. We also have a short bonus: Gustav Mahler playing one of his songs on CD.

The event is free (from 7 to 8 pm); tea and choice confections will be served.
