GOLDEN ERA RECORDED MUSIC project (August 21, 2019): 1952 New York Jazz Concert

A 1952 New York concert created by the impresario Norman Granz was the "peace summit" between the radical (and angry) young Be Bop jazz musicians (Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk etc) and the Old Guard jazz veterans of the Duke Ellington band era of the 1920s & 30s. We will hear extended excerpts from this concert, at which the Be Boppers and Old Guard joined forces for a memorable evening of ecstatic music-making. A touch of the great Charlie Parker blowing solo will finish the show.

FIBHORN GALLERY, 21 Thomson Ave, Glens Falls. 7-8 pm.

The event is free and open to the public. Tea, coffee, and refreshments will be served.
