GERM on ZOOM: March 17, 2021

Each week at our Golden Era Recorded Music Project, we travel the endless VINYL paths from 1948 to 1988. ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW!

After the darkness and funeral of MAHLER'S 5th SYMPHONY (movements 1 & 2) last week and great audience courage by all, we will hear the riotous 3rd movement and all the summer demons of the Austrian Alpine mountains and meadows.

A short instrumental HAIKU by MESSIAEN will bring us sounds from the ornithological habitat of Japan. Modern music for the birds!

A rare LP of the DUKE ELLINGTON BAND in 1945 will give us a taste of how young BILLY STRAYHORN made his first impact on the band, plus the sound of early Johnny Hodges, Cat Anderson, Harry Carney and other greats.

The WORLD'S FIRST rondo finale by HAYDN has been discovered in my LP archives: Symphony 42. This is the model for the final movement of the Mahler 5th symphony, which we will hear in a fortnight.

AND a rare treat: the terrific rock band LITTLE FEAT in a mint condition LP set to send us home!

We send out a link for the Zoom meeting every Wednesday by email! Please contact us and let us know if you'd like to be added to the mailing list.

See you all at 7 pm TONIGHT!
