GERM on ZOOM: May 5, 2021

We gather on Wednesday nights and explore, like daring spelunkers, the incredibly rich veins of musical gold on world-wide vinyl from1948 to 1988.

Tonight we will start in BALI with the extroverted style of GAMELON typical of this small INDONESIAN ISLAND.

Then it is on to SOUTH AMERICA and LOS CALCHAKIS, our old friends playing native instruments in music of the HIGH ANDES.

We explore BACK IN TIME as well as FOREIGN LANDS: A GENUINE 1800 forte piano will be heard playing BEETHOVEN'S PIANO CONCERTO 13 and we will savor the EXACT SOUND the composer heard when he created it. Malcolm Bilson in charge.

Let's explore the future and the SECOND VIENNESE SCHOOL (still unknown to most of us) with music of ANTON WEBERN and 2 of his 5 movements for orchestra.

A Japanese classical violinist playing COUNTRY MUSIC? I found an album of SHOJI TABUCHI doing just that, and boy could this guy fiddle!
