GERM on ZOOM: May 12, 2021

We gather on Wednesday nights and cull riches from the treasure-trove of world-wide vinyl from1948 to 1988.

Tonight we will amaze ourselves with 3 great samplings of the MODERN 20th CENTURY piano (and a wistful look back at its 18th century grandfather)

MICHEL LeGRAND will play a perfectly recorded piano in his unique insouciant jazz style.

Lest we forget: MALCOLM BILSON will play a Rondo by MOZART on a reproduction of one of his 18th century instruments

A rare 1958 LP of BRAHMS 2nd PIANO CONCERTO is a perfect illustration of why pianos HAD to get bigger and more powerful: to hold the fort against the onslaught of the modern symphony orchestra. HANS RICHTER-HAASER and VON KARAJAN (1st movement).

From the other towering peak of musical style, we will hear again EARL “FATHA” HINES sound like 2 pianos in pieces by THE DUKE.

And Mozart again on the FORTEPIANO to say “GOODNIGHT.”

We send out a link for the Zoom meeting every Wednesday by email! Please contact us and let us know if you'd like to be added to the mailing list.

See you all at 7 pm TONIGHT!
