GERM on Zoom: Jan 19, 2022

Join us at the GOLDEN ERA RECORDED MUSIC PROJECT in our ceaseless JOURNEY OF AMAZEMENT into the vast vaults of ANALOG LP RECORDINGS from 1948 to 1988!

Tonight we will hear the 4th and final movement of MAHLER'S SYMPHONY NO. 4. It is a song for girl singer and orchestra entitled “DAS HIMMLISCHE LEBEN (the HEAVENLY LIFE).” Mahler specifically instructed that it must be sung “absolutely without parody” and RERI GRIST does it perfectly.

Two astonishing letters from ARNOLD SCHOENBERG to MAHLER were the last received before Mahler died in 1911. First we will read them then hear some amazing music by this misunderstood ATONAL COMPOSER!

DUKE ELLINGTON at the BAL MASQUE NIGHT CLUB and BILLY TAYLOR at an EMPTY BALLROOM will lead to an ANALOG VISIT to CAFE LENA in SARATOGA!

We send a Zoom link by email every Wednesday. If you'd like to be added to our mailing list, contact us here.
